Salvia hybrid `Riverside Sage`
A very durable, low maintenance hybrid between Salvia `Karwinski` and Salvia greggii. This hybrid contains the attributes of both parents. Salvia `Karwinski` is a tropical species native to Brazil. It tolerates the hot humid climate of the S.E. U.S. and is resistant to leaf spot. Salvia greggii is native to the S.W. U.S. which is very drought and cold tolerant, but is susceptible to leaf spot diseases. Salvia hybrid `Riverside Sage` is a short day bloomer. It begins to flower here in central Florida in late September and blooms until mid-May. It has tolerated temperatures here in central Flordia in the upper teens with minimal damage. It`s very resistant to leaf spot diseases. Maximum height is 20 to 24 inches tall. It needs to be pruned in late summer before flower initiation as the plant tends to get shrubby if left unpruned.
