Lespedeza liukiuensis “Little Volcano”
A drought tolerant, cold tolerant perennial, brought to the United States by Ted Stevens, ‘Nurseries Caroliniana’ from Ryuku Island, Japan. It was named ‘Little Volcano’ by Tony Avent, ‘Plants Delight Nursery’.
In South Florida and with mild winters in Central Florida, it remains evergreen; otherwise it is deciduous in more northern zones with brilliant yellow fall colors.
It blooms here in Central Florida by mid-September until it goes semi-dormant in December and January. It re-blooms from March till mid-May. We have observed very few pest problems.
